As someone who was active in the 'fuse' topic posting I was just wondering what was the reason for the thread being closed down.

None of that was done, I saw the thread taken down because of the conflict. Sadly there were some good informative posts there.

Although a few people got a little close, and although the decisions of admin and moderators have to be considered as final (like it or not), the main reason the thread was taken down was not due to the AUP , but because it was descending into personal attacks and zero content.

We have all said numerous times that we not only tolerate lively debate, but actively encourage it. Banter is fine, and it's one of the things that has always made the Wigwam a little different. Light insults swapped between people who know each other and get the joke is no problem. However, start turning any thread into a school playground of swapping insults and making personal comments and the whole thing goes straight into the bin.

All the moderators here have a life outside the forum and apart from basking in the glow of people's appreciation (yeah, right) get nothing in return for the countless hours they put in. We all have work and businesses outside the forum and above all what really gets us wound up is having to deal with utter stupidity, uncalled for insults, and thread crapping.

People who don't follow the basic rules spoil it for others, and we will not under any circumstances let that ever happen again. It is always a shame when a thread with information and sensible debate gets closed, but those who spoiled it are responsible.

Self-police please and make our lives easier. If you think you're about to post something that just maybe you should not, then don't. Have another glass, step away from the keyboard. Think before you post.

I don't bother with fuses myself.

In fact, I also wire straight from the pylon, for the most original, unspoiled electrical signal.

Not sure about cats but squirrels seem to enjoy running along HT lines.

Is there woodworking safety rule? Because, you know... splinters.

Cartridge styluses are quite sharp as well. Someone should look into that.

Thanks, good to know the reason.

Only issue being the rest of us suffer for the actions of ignorant idiots. Perhaps temporary bans or other solutions could be found so more civil folk don't suffer.
Indeed, and the way some people are treating this place (and in the process, ruining things for others), there are likely to be some before long.

Quite simply, none of the mods have to time to wade through page after page of idiocy deleting or hiding the relevant posts. Unfortunately, time is finite. If people start wrecking threads, then we have no option other than to just kill the lot. We all agree that's a gunuine shame, but hopefully sooner or later those responsible will learn to stop doing it. If not, they'll be history.

The Wigwam seems to have acquired a new lease of life, full of the original banter, and fortunately lacking the unpleasantness. It was stopped, and it will be stopped in future.

Now get back to an argument about cables.

Incidentally, we don't care about people being 'civil'. Rip into other people's statements and opinions as much as you want, but keep it clean and do not under any circumstances make it personal. Debate. Have fun. Throw some humour around.

The vast majority of people here are far from stupid, but there are a few who seem to unplug their IQ when they plug in their keyboard.

Moderating here will continue to be 'light', but within reason. Basically, if you'd feel comfortable saying it to someone's face, it's more than likely to be OK to post it. If you wouldn't feel comfortable, then don't hide behind a computer. Either express it differently, or don't post it at all.
