Hi Guys,

Want to swap wires and get some Linn cables for a M140 EB-I setup. My choices are
Brand new K200 or K40
Used K400

Any advise?
Thank you,
Best Regards,
Ashhad

I’ve used for nearly 35 years until recently K400 in my system then when went to single writing I cut the K400 to make in fact K200 black.

A while later Linn released a new Silver cable called K200 I tried it and found it rather brighter and less musical so kept my Black K200 until home renovations forced me to have longer cables and and after many comparisons and head scratching the only cable I use now is Kudos KS-1 I know this reads strange as the kudos cable is much smaller but it does retain the musicality of the old K400.
K40 isn’t in the same league by quite a margin.

I can second the above from experience although within the limits of my system.

Bought the K40 a couple of years ago with M140, AEBi and ASH. Only recently swapped the K40 for K400 with limited expectation, however I find K400 superior.

  • K40 vs K400: more weight and ease of listening.
  • K400 vs KS-1: same weight and sweeter, no sharpness.

To be clear, my Kudos super 20a are wired internally with KS-1 as standerd, I hoped adding the KS-1 as speakercable would bring synergy and I believe it does.

Can’t comment on the K200

In your all Linn system I would certainly opt of K400 first, for price and synergy

Years ago, when I had a LK280 with Spark, I purchased 2 x 8mtr lengths of K400 Second hand from fleabay. Best upgrade I ever did. I have since moved my system and cut them back to 6mtrs (the magic length won’t work in my room). I have also changed my amplification several times. Over the years I have been given alternative cables to try, including K40, Kimber cables, Chord and several other. None proved to be as good as the K400 and I would not part with them for anything else. I am currently using them as a single run (both channels twisted together) as I am single amped to passive Akudoriks.

I found a pair of 3m on eBay which are on their way.

While I wait for another well-priced pair to pop-up, I’m going to run these with DNM for tweeter & super tweeter. Let’s see how the pairing turns out.

I have 4 x 4m runs for sale after upgrading to 5m due to repositioning my hifi. I'm pretty sure they are all 4m, as I know they were just short of what I needed.
