I think like many other music collectors, storage always becomes an issue at some point. From my early days of collecting LP’s (or vinyls for the young ones), to modern day Hard Disc Drives. Networking seems to have solved the issue for storing modern music, but for all others, various options are available. From off the shelf*, IKEA specials, to custom commissioned racks, the list is endless.

In my earlier days when working abroad, for convenience I began to collect those new fangled recording things called Cassettes. I even custom made a storage rack, with a sliding key which you pressed, to pop out the required tape. Sadly no picture of this exists at the moment, but if I come across an old print, I’ll upload it.

I used to have “Billy” bookcases for my CD’s, until they become unpractical because they were taking up all the wall space. My current solution has been trusty IKEA cabinets, modified for my own purpose, with drawers for the CD’s, though once again I’ve reached bursting point. I recently bought a second hand Turntable stand, which I currently use for some of my Boxed sets, though once again, it isn’t big enough.

Here are my current storage solutions, show us yours. IMG_2816.jpeg IMG_2817.jpeg IMG_2818.jpeg IMG_2819.jpeg

I also have a crate to put my new stuff in so it's easy to find and play👍

The IKEA Billy CD racks look good, till you fill them up, then fill up the wall space. I suppose you have a few feet of wall space left. The vinyl storage looks good too,

1 Billy units for DVDs, Blu-rays, the other for CDs that are 'new' and the start of the alphabetised CDs.
The remainder of the alphabetised CDs (400+) are in a matching cupboard. All CDs are ripped to FLAC/ALAC and usually played via ROON.
What non-classical LPs I have left after selling at auction are in another IKEA unit, with a few favourite classical LPs. The remainder of the classical LPs, DVDs and cassettes are out of the way in an upstairs bedroom.

That’s what I like to see, organised CDs.

When I decided to commission the building of my HiFi unit . I incorporated a section within the design to hold about 120 lps..
This did the purpose of 2 things , access to some of my large collection quickly , without cluttering anywhere other than the man cave , and to give the unit the extra mass I needed in the centre , under the deck

CD storage (aka ISB - Internet Streaming Backup).

IKEA display cabinets from perhaps 15-20 years ago. Not intended but nonetheless ideal for CDs.
Strictly alphabetical by classical composer.
There's a separate CD tower for my 100 or so non classical.

All I would say , follow that vision that does it for you and create it ..
This is my modern day vision of my late great uncles 1960’s stereogram that formed my desire to experience music at its best ,

Here is my empty LP rack waiting for me to unpack the LPs following the house move. It’s a pro rack from a display company that used to sell to shops, museums etc. They painted it the same colour as my Vitsoe shelving. Am really happy with it but if I sell off a load of LPs as per my give up LPs thread then it will be up for sale.

For CD storage I used Vitsoe drawers. They have a special CD or DVD insert and it works very well as a 90cm wide drawer could hold 300 CDs but Vitsoe is very expensive.

My CDs are in metal CD cases in the garage and they have been ripped to an Innuos Zen Mini SSD. 2BA58E17-B764-49C3-A486-244AB97EFE48.jpeg
