I have got some images from there, years ago but I was doing longer exposures around 30 seconds I think, totally different effect, I will have to find them. The figure is quite important I feel.

I tried a range of shutter speeds from 1/100s to 30s.  The ones between 1s and 0.1s seem to produce the effect I was after.

Yes of course it depends on the conditions and what effect you want. I usually take longer exposures of around 60 seconds or more but some days 2 seconds is enough.

Totally agree, I've got a photo where the sky is a 320s exposure, the water is 61s, the breaking wave is 0.1s and the land is 1/500s.
