This came from an estate clearance of hifi eqpt. I dont know any detailed history except that the wole joblot originated from 'Duck, Son & Pinker'' the famous music store in Bath which was in business from 1850 - 2010

Hi end Sony player in it's day. Built like a tank it weighs around 17kg. I've had it playing in my own system and love it. Think it beats my Musical Fidelity A5.
Cosmetically really clean and tidy. All Led's working and basic functions seem to be fine. The CD draw is super quiet and slick, (unlike the MF which sounds like the kitchen cutlery drawer)
No remote I'm afraid and dont have the key to lock the transport mechanism. Not sure if it can be locked but will post it with lots of foam suspension so hopefully will travel safe

...I was just about to add how good I think these old Sony top-of-the-range sound, as I have a similar but significantly heavier 555 ESD, to aid your sale... and yours has sold already :D

I was looking for a 337 to replace the one I regretfully sold, so this will do nicely.

I've had a 557ESD for almost 15 years, crazy to think that it was ~20 years old when I bought it! Still plays great. In Europe these were also sold with wooden sides, which made them look much more valuable - but as soon as you try to lift one you know what you have.

The variable output on those can be very useful if you have an over-excited disc.

SALE PENDING

Turned out to be very popular !
It's a classic beast, beginning to think I should have kept it and sold my regular player.

Thanks for the comments

For info - Here's a link to the old Lampizator website on the 557 - he likes it!

http://lampizator.eu/LAMPIZATOR/REFERENCES/sony cdp-557ESD/SONY CDP-557ESD.html
Also on the same website are details on the 337 and 555, as it happens. Go to the 'Alphabetical' tab if you are interested in searching through all of the CD players/transports he has tested and modified.

Many thanks
Dont tell me anymore how good it is though.... beginning to wish I'd kept !! : )
