Up for sale a Woo Audio WA5-LE top of the line headphone amplifier in great condition. Works perfectly, I'm the original owner.
This WA5-LE (Gen 1) features a number of significant upgrades above the standard model, each one of which has elevated its sound noticeably over a stock Woo amp. It‘s about £2K on top of purchase price I‘ve put into these moves (& each has felt worth the spend).
- Internal parts upgrade package from Woo at purchase (V-Caps, Jensen caps, etc)
- Had Revelation Audio in the US create me a bespoke Cryo Silver umbilical chord to connect the Power and Amp sections
- Recently purchased top end tubes as a final upgrade, these are all matched pairs and practically new with a few tens/low hundreds of hours on them including PSVANE ACME 300Bs, PSVANE ACME 274Bs and pristine, rare NOS Ken Rad black glass 6SN7s
This is pretty much as good as headphone amplification gets, it has a wonderful 300B sound and a choice of high and low impedance pots to carefully match with headphones. Works amazingly to partner digital front ends, whilst maintaining an inredibly big soundstage and gorgeous detail. I use it with Senn HD800, HD800S, Meze Empyrean and Final Audio D8000 Pro and all of them shine through it. You'll also barely trouble 9 O'clock on the volume with most headphones - it has masses of power.
I have listened to a number of 300B tubes. I had the Sophia Royal Princess before - which these better in every conceivable way - these PSVANE ACME 300Bs sit right at the summit alongside Elrog / Takatsuki (both of which I’ve heard in this amp). I bought these aware of some internet comments on reliability (which you frankly find with enough reviews on most tubes), thankfully later matched pairs from reputable sellers like these ones have not suffered any of these early reliability issues of their early model cousins (similar to Elrog in this regard). They’re a flawless matched pair and sound thoroughly excellent.
Happy to demo to any potential buyer in Cumbria. This is a very heavy package, so pickup preferred, careful delivery would be possible in the UK.
£2700
or
£2250 option 2
or
£2000 without tubes
Updated Price / Options:
Option 1 - £2600 including all the above tubes
or
Option 2 - £2150 with a decent matched pair of Amperex Philips Holland 5R4GYS [5R4GY] rectifier tubes and my older pair of Ken Rad black glass 6SN7s - both of which have more hours and use on them then, but still sound outstanding and would not be near end of life in terms of hours on them (both seem to have considerable life left). Both types are highly regarded and frankly far, far superior to your average Chinese, Russian NOS tubes that might represent options at just over £100/pair. You'd then just need to sort out a pair of 300B tubes...
or
Option 3 - £1900 - WA5-LE Amp, Woo upgraded internals, RAL cryogenic silver cable, No tubes
