HDCD NOT DEAD AFTER ALL

Just being playing Prairie Wind by Neil Young (pretty good) and noticed in the small print that it is HDCD encoded. Anyone else noticed if anything else is coming out in HDCD?

Lots of cds come out on HDCD. All of Mark Knoflersa solo cds are.

There is a HUGE Thread on Hifichoice about HDCD's and 100's are lsited. I have about 30.

No probably wrong assumption on my part that with the advent of SACD etc it might be. With the exception of Naim are there many CDPs in production that can decode iiit?

I hope it doesn't die; its a nice surprise to find something you've bought is going to sound that bit better than you thought it would

I think SACD is more dead than HDCD

I heard an SACD demo at the Glasgow hifi show. Couldn't hear any real difference between that and redbook. Maybe it was the dem itself but i dont think so. It was at the Linn dem in 2:1.

With an immediate comparison using the Unidisk player through Akurate front speakers, there was a touch(and i mean a touch) more air and space with the SACD recording. Certainly not worth paying extra for it IMO.

Felt the same too.

Perhaps it depends on the type of music, maybe big orchestral pieces might benefit - anyone done a thorough demo?

There are many Cds coming out of China claiming to be HDCD,but they aren't ie the HDCD light doesn't come on when played.
