many many times but i know id never be happy (only in my mind..but unfortunately my mind is what does my thinking!!)my systems costs alot less than i have spent in the past and the masses of tiem i have spent choppping and changing has paid off as i have a much better system that cost me quite a bit less. my whole system cost me less than my original cd player!!! careful matching & interaction with your room is far more important in my opnion now.

Nooooo, really good kit stops women from wanting to move in with you,to much competition you see.

I suppose you get to a stage where you begin to question how much is being spent on your kit, if anyone had said to me a year or so back that one ic i use would have a price tag on it of £600, id have said they're mad, and that if i spent around £300 on a tweak to my speakers, my thoughts back then would be to spend that amount on a cdp or something else.

I've got 3 systems which, combined, cost well under £600 - and no, I wouldn't trade them for a cable

Ha Ha, No.

Just that, in the pic, he looks like, you know, he could be, you know,

I'm not saying he is, just looks like .

I have the answer to this,

I am at the moment using a Dual 5150 cd player and 5600 integrated amp with MS20i speakers, and it sounds rubbish compared to my Theta/Krell/Kef set up. ( not that the Dual kit is bad, indeed it is better than the most of the Rotel and Nad best buys of its day)

Of course only as I have a small collection of equipment for swapping around, comparing transports, cheap source versus expensive etc etc (I have to make it look like I use it otherwise the wife asks questions !)

And this serves to remind me why not to ...

Craig - I've been doing this for a while and have currently spent a lot less than last years setup with pre/powers etc.

Problem is that curiosity gets the better of you and if the money is available I find I have to just try outthe next level up
f_doh.gif.2bfa1ec008d0c8800eee305d3a30be23.gif
- I'm my own worst enemy.

I envy my bro sometimes - he's got an Arcam 72 CD player, 85 amp and some B&W 601's - system rocks and he is quite content.

What i enjoy these days is digging up 2nd hand bargains - stuff that cost thousands years ago and is now worth a few hundred pounds ;)because I dont think amp technology has changed at all and if anything, stuff was better built years ago. As for CD players, my current thoughts are that the DAC is the most important bit with the transport having less of an influence (dont shoot me
gun_bandana.gif.34a70e258c8f5d8165134eb5137071e8.gif
- its only a theory but the squeezebox is my proof).

If I can convince myself to go full size boxes again then I can probably see myself building a sweet little system for under £700.

I've asked you before, if you had the A3.2 CD player these days would you still think the minimax is better considering the A3.2 can be had for sub £300

I won't bother selling up.

All my bits I bought for a good price second hand, and it would be hard to get them again.

Each of my components cost under £500, and I think it's pretty good.

And at the end of the day, if I had an emergency need for cash it could all be liquidated in a week via eBay and forums and what I paid for it.

My system is used everyday, and I prefer it to numbers on a bank statement.

I waited a long time to get this set up and can't stop playing it- might add a PSU if a good 2nd hand deal comes along or change speakers if we move to a different house at some time in the future if the Dyns don't fit the new surroundings.

Otherwise it stays.
