Before buying my MF Combo X-150/X-Ray, I made a little bit of research and compared prices abroad.

No worries. The UK rip-off culture is well alive. These British kits carry the heaviest price tag in Great-Britain...

I found some more affordable prices in the US and in Europe. But I thought I would share this one with you, which turned out to be the cheapest by a healthy margin:

X-150: £567

X-P200: £637

By the way, this chap is not a "Hi-Fi dealer", he is specialised in Pianos and his own creation, the Oeone egg speaker: http://www.scanavini.ch/oeone.php

In my case, it would have made sense as I have some relatives in Switzerland and travel sometimes to this country. I would have had my cousin sending me that as a private parcel therefore avoiding UK import duties.

Only limitation: Warranty valid in Switzerland only and UK import duties.

But it's a high-street dealer, not a dodgy eBay seller.

Wonder if the kit would still be in production if they'd been priced like that in the UK? ...

This guy speaks French, certainly a bit of English and German too.

BTW, he is stocking MF X-Series because he chose the X-Series as the only source to demo his own line of speakers:

You do know that you are still legally required to pay tax on it and will have to if they ask for it.

I got my combo from an eBay seller, a Russian living in Eastern Germany and selling some Russian MF products.

I loose the warranty or more exactly it's valid in Russia.

But the items were brand new, unopened, with all seals, stickers... and they work perfectly well. Love them.

UK (R&D) -> South-East Asia (Production) -> Russia (Official sales channel) -> East Germany (eBay seller) -> UK (Me)..... LOL

I will certainly go to see my cousins in Switzerland over Christmas or in Jan...

I hope we will go skiing all days. Otherwise, I might have time to pop-up to this shop and come back to the UK with this X-P200...

You can buy them cheaper now on ex-dem deals than the prices your showing mate.

Just have a mooch on the sevenoaks clearance site!

Thanks for the tip. But I might as well wait for you to sell this X-P200 for charity. Was your last price £305?

The stereo and AV are not going to merge sorry

.

I have been thinking about selling the pre/power but would look for a £1k for the 2 plus P&P (that way I just use the X150).

Only problem is I ain't selling the power until the pre is sold (don't want to be left with the pre).

Just a thought at the moment but listening time is virtually zero at the moment (maybe this will change - doubt it).

You really have got stop dreaming about the £305 - I don't like disappointing people

It is not good news for me, but I see your point. You are right to hold down on your X-P200 until your X-Pre finds a new home 1st or with the X-P200.

See on eBay, you can easily find a X-Pre brand new for <£400, whereas X-P200 are rare on eBay.

I value the XP200 at £700 as thats what the other one went for and the XPre at £400 so £1000 for both is a good deal I reckon.

Keep your eyes open you never knoe you may see someone who wants a pre.

Just paid £811 on eBay last week for an XP200 and one a few months back for £500.

Two years ago they were going for £400. Seem to be going up and nearly matching price as when new.

Have monitored closely and have seen less than four on eBay UK in a year, they are rare.

Some dodgy US sites list them as 'in stock' but they never are!

I was bidding against you! I put in what I thought was a very high bid just ensure I got it, and couldn't believe it when I'd lost it. Like you, I'd been monitoring eBay for an X-P200 for ages (I must have missed the one you got for £500). I have a couple already and love them.

If I thought I could get £811 each for the ones I've got, I'd put them on eBay, but my worry is that it's only you and me who want them....!

Taken me nearly two years to acquire an additional three to make two pairs up. Sorry, I whacked in £1501 in the last fifteen seconds of auction and got the lastest one for £811, at least next time you will have some (mine) of the bidding competition removed! I too missed a pair for sale previously and felt miffed for not seeing them till ended.

The previous purchase for £500 was a 'Buy it Now' a few weeks back on a Sunday evening and I snapped it up within just hours of it been listed. If you want me to keep an eye out for you for any others that come up on eBay, or elsewhere then please PM me. I can assure you that we are not alone in wanting XP200s.

If you find one that you want but has cosmetic damge to face plate, for your info: I have two very shiny new (from the MF factory) XP200 faceplates which I might be persuaded to let go to a good home at the right price.

All the best!
