The only one of those I would look at for 30k per year is the Octavia. At least you can move your legs a tad on the M-way. 30K a year in a supermine, especially if much of it is motorway will be a total pain in the----- back, neck, arse, and thighs.

I'm pleased to say most of my travelling days are in the past (or I hope they are), but in the right car it's bearable, in the wrong one you arrive at a meeting ready for a fight.

I just popped outside and told that to two kids. They said

"that johnniebaby is a lying b*stard"

Guess you were right but surprised that you're so famous.

The Skodder gets my vote, come on guys, these are VW's, so the old tales and funny stories of a few years ago dont count at all.
I agree with Craig, the only car on that list that makes any sense is the Skoda. I also think James is right - if someone showed me a company car list like that I would laugh first and look for another job as a close second. :D

The crazy thing with some of those cars is that the depreciation is such that they are probably not much cheaper to lease than something decent which would depreciate less.

The Skoda, or the Berlingo Multispace, either are decent (if unexciting) and vastly better than my current co vehicle an LDV Maxus      1500 miles in just under 3 weeks :cs: :dunno:

Well actually it was only for one year :? 63K, with no mechanical problems.

Unfortunately this list is that, I can't upgrade.

Private miles are on the fuel card, of which I pay them back at 10p (?) a mile I think.

There is an opt out scheme, but for the moment I can't afford to buy something reasonable to do the mileage in.

Also TBH, the Fiesta or similar isn't the small car it once was! I would say its a similar size to the mk5 escort!

Most fun, best for the fashionista: Fiat 500 sport

Best all round small car: Honda new Jazz

Left field for those with removal needs on the side: Skoda roomster

You cannot be serious: Chevrolet

and in answer to some of the above, the Corsa is actually HUGE inside, as is the new Polo, and both are quite, well equipped and finished and do well long distances (and I only drove the previous versions, at 15 stone and 6'4" on regular 500 mile round trips to devon).

Sensible head on....

Which one has?

- Fully adjustable driver's seat

- Fully adjustable steering wheel

- Lumbar support

30k a year in anything without those is torture.

(Posting as a 30k/year driver)

You don't pay tax on that then so that's good. For most people, this works out cheaper than getting free fuel.

The Octavia if it didnt have a 1.4. I just couldn't do it. The fabia estate 1.6 has a bit more poke. Or maybe one of the Berlingos as they're supposed to be nice to drive. Most of the others are too small, for me at least.

Im thinking of maybe a Roomster now, odd looking I know, but worth a Test Drive.

I think stickman summed it up.

Its all about the seat and room around it, not the size of car!

Actually that depends on size of driver. If you are not over tall etc, of greater importance for long distance comfort is wheelbase.

The Octavia is actually based on the Golf so not as great in this aspect as it would be if it was a Skoda badged Passat as many seem to believe, but still obviously better for long trips than a 500 or suchlike.

I used to do silly annual mileage, now I am down to just 35k ish in my daily driver car, and I have done that in smaller cars, just even for someone not large (I am 5ft 6 and less than UK average lady size) it isn't ideal.

Narrow it down and drive a few before you decide.

I'll have to beg to differ with that. But I could just be overly sensitive to poor driving positions. (I'm 5ft 11in, so not overly tall).

clarkson seemed to like the new fiesta on tg last night - proper road test and everything including the industry standard chased through a shopping mall by baddies in a corvette test and the new beach landing with the marine commandos test which seems to be gaining popularity as a testing yardstick - i hear evo will be testing the new zonda in this way.

they did manage to get 4 fully kitted out commandos in the thing so it's gotta be quite roomy and the 1.6 turbo engine seemed quite nippy too round the shopping mall.
