Is the market saturated.

I was thinking this the other day,is the audio market over saturated? To many fish going for a ever decreasing market?

Just look at cables.A few years ago it was,Audioquest,Monster,QED,VDH,now there are millions, with more and more people becoming sceptical, and making thier own.

Looking through the hifi magazines,a few years ago it was mainly budget end Japanese kit,British kit,and the American high end,the Japanese pulled out of 2-channel,but now seem to want to get back in,and in the last few years, chinese companies springing up all over the place, renamed, rebadged, along with products from other countries, has this lead to the market being over saturated?too much choice, that maybe many won't survive, maybe if thier wasn't so much choice we wouldn't want to keep changing to try something different,is too may products a good or bad thing?I guess it keeps the market competative and companies on thier toes.

This may seem a little :eek:t:but have you noticed in supermarkets how many types and makes of nappy there are?! In a large shop there are dozens of metres of the things - all shapes, sizes, colours, absorbency coefficients ... The same is true for many things. We live in a society which is currently obsessed by the notion of "choice". Our esteemed (?) Prime Minister here in the UK has recognised that particular bandwagon for some time now.

I guess the same thing is happening in our own little audiophile world.

Sales down ?
Dave,I didn't mention sales:?,I said over saturated market,I thought this when I picked up hifi + and looked through some magazines at the amount of products there are now avaliable, not how many dealers there are.

Dave, you seem to concerned with other peoples buisness.

Yes the choice has increased, the same as with most markets and industries. A lot can be said for specialism in the hi-fi industry and staying faithfull to trusted brands and suppliers. Yes you can expand your range and stock as many brands as possible to give your customers the greatest possible choice, but then you become a box shifter like the internet-only based retailers, and possibly Richer and Superfi. If one Denon AV amp isn't in stock you just sell them the same-priced Yamaha one, no problem.

Don't forget China's commerce, with its population of so many billion, is exploding at the moment and this will mean even more products flooding onto the market. All the small business can do is offer expert advice and knowledge, personal service and trust in the products they sell as being the best for the money.

Happy new year adam,

TIU

Always interested in other peoples business, and when a dealer talks about a saturated market, if its because its something read in a mag it must be because trade is slow.......... the last three dealers I have spoken with have no time to read mags because they are all busy

this is one of the things your going to have to put up with as a dealer, a few people like me are always suspious when dealers make any comment

if you ask a comment about any kit going to see it as cheap market research

its not you Adam its all dealers, and given the way some dealers on this and other forums keep posting in none trade areas pictures of kit which then a few weeks later is for sale

its not far off taking the piss (not that you are)

a couple of dealers been doing it a lot on hi fi choice and I am sure i have seen it here too

Who cares if the consumer market for hifi separates is shrinking? I, for one, am glad a lot of companies are getting back into the 2 channel game, even the Japs. Lots of new kit to ponder on, admire, even sideswap for. Its beginning to feel like the return of the good ol' mid-90s.

The only problem is if you trying to sell off kit that is barely old. I am beginning to sense a paradigm shift in the second-hand market, where I'm at. It is not so easy to sell your stuff that quickly because buyers have the luxury of choosing from similarly-priced quality kit brand-new.

I'm sure this may well be the case Dave, about dealers,I have only ever put 1 picture of a product I sell and that was only to show its build quality, not to sell it,as I only market the product to Spain. It was just a simple comment and something I noticed while looking at a magizine the amount of new products,I didn't think it would be diseceted under a microscope,I'll try not to look at magazines in the future:p

and moreso..

sometimes i wish i wasnt labelled a dealer...i'm really passionate about jap hifi and if i find something i like and want to pass on info then i will. I'm not label bound like most and i love to try new things to gain experience...and most of the stuff i couldnt afford to keep anyway! Never have i mentioned a product that i knew wasnt up to it.

People wouldnt have known the victor, ns-2000, jap tt's speakers and so on.

Perhaps i shouldnt tell people of my experiences any more...and keep everything to myself!

I don't think you should etm. Dealers, especially new ones on the forum, will always be viewed with a bit of suspicion. I have always found your contributions show a real passion and enthusiasm for the hobby, with no ulterior motives. (You can use Paypal to pay me).

What cart do you have on your Bush btw?
