Gosh, I’ve not heard that one before. But it’s possible I suppose. Was that from the Rega era when they fitted the s-shaped Acos tonearm? And is it true that they ended up selling their stock to Rega for the Planar 2? If you look closely at early Rega mats, you can see where the Linn details have been ground out.

Maybe I have mistakenly checked the prices from other places. THeir pricelist looks similar and their numbers are all above 4K .I’m pretty sure the price in the UK has been £4000 for quite sometime. I’m not sure that it’s ever been above that. Happy to be corrected.

Meanwhile looking further back to 2016, the tonearm was 3,700.

So it has been 4,000 for 6 years already, and nothing is gonna to happen ?
It already has had an update from SE to SE/1 it has a larger headshell and shorter armtube improved preloaded bias unpainted platform and now a unpainted queuing device. So it has been 4,000 for 6 years already, and nothing is gonna to happen ?
Not bad I think as these changes were made to facilitate other than only Linn cartridges.
They do listen to some dealers.
Arh, I have almost forgot that , after my wife has complained my keep looking for "overpriced " hifi since the last year .It already has had an update from SE to SE/1 it has a larger headshell and shorter armtube improved preloaded bias unpainted platform and now a unpainted queuing device.

Quite funny but concerning all this chat about time lapse prices but realistically some things have held their prices very well
Ekos SE/1 for example has been 4K since 2016 through modifications and all the recent problems with pandemic, availability of raw materials not to mention the colossal increase in timber steel and even shipping costs round the world.
We live in very uncertain times and really makes me enjoy what I have been very fortunate to have so don't dither get it while you can.
I fear availability and affordability will not be stable for long.
Life's too short only here once.
Just my ramblings for the long winter nights.
Don't know why my font went big I didn't mean to shout.

Unfortunately, yes I received an e-mail yesterday from my Linn dealer, apparently Linn has announced a big raise in prices from January 2022. All orders entered before that will be supplied at the old prices, even if they are delivered in 2022. The new products from 2021 are excluded from this price hike. So get your orders in nowSo it has been 4,000 for 6 years already, and nothing is gonna to happen ?
According to a random online inflation calculator, £59.40 in 1973 equates to ~£642 today.

It went through that barrier sometime in the 80s, didn’t it? It was certainly £340 in 1980.According to a random online inflation calculator, £59.40 in 1973 equates to ~£642 today.

If it's just the turntable without arm & cartridge it may have held out until the '90s. I seem to recall my LP12 with Basik arm and (I think) K5 cartridge was £525 in 1987.It went through that barrier sometime in the 80s, didn’t it?

That's what I paid for mine in 1981, plus 46GBP for the Basik arm + MM cartridge. It went through that barrier sometime in the 80s, didn’t it? It was certainly £340 in 1980.

My current plinth, which I bought in 2014, was £239. I was very lucky to be offered one that was old stock as, in 2014, they went from £239 to over £500 in one jump.
Our current main LP12, the one with the above plinth, was originally housed in a black ash plinth. I bought this one new in 2001. I bought it from a dealer that couldn't move LP12s at all. It was Lingo 1, Cirkus, Akito 2b, Trampolin. I took it home and built it up myself - it was a very good price at £1500. I can't remember whether that included the cartridge or not. If it did (likely) then it was an A&R P77. The outer platter lid, and hinges are still original!!
Tracey's 1978 (20xxx) one, complete with SME 3009 and Shure V15 was £376.95. The Ittok, Nirvana and Valhalla were added in the mid 80's - and the cost of these upgrades was more than double the 1978 total price - and a business model was born!

Yes, Linn stopped selling them and sold a boatload to Rega. They rubbed the Linn Products Ltd. name out of the inner part of the mat and sold them with Planar 2s in the mid to late 70s and early 80s. When Rega finally ran out of them they switched over to felt as used on the Planar 3. These were the versions with the S-shaped Rega arm made by Acos Lustre. I still have one of the original ones with the Linn Products name intact. And is it true that they ended up selling their stock to Rega for the Planar 2? If you look closely at early Rega mats, you can see where the Linn details have been ground out.I’ve still got one. It had radial ribs and looked smart. Obviously the felt mat that attaches to LPs with static sounded better!

Yep - I paid £340 in August 1980…That's what I paid for mine in 1981, plus 46GBP for the Basik arm + MM cartridge.
In 1981 (when I bought my first LP12) Linn had just increased their US price for the Sondek to over $1000, before tax (for the bare turntable). This resulted in such a stink in the audiophile community that they proceeded to lower the price the next year (and that included the Nirvana update)!
In 1982 they introduced the Valhalla PS which was a dealer installed upgrade for $50. I think that was the last of the affordable upgrades
