You’re probably right Rockchild, it would go against the grain a bit. I spoke on various occasions to Patrick about i/cs and speaker cable and, apart from Siltech and Prelude, a Swiss firm they distributed at the time, he believed that a well made up copper cable was the best bet. Oh yes, and Max Townsend’s cables - I can’t remember the name.Personally I find Sugden don’t respond well to mains cable upgrades. No difference or in some cases, degrading in sound. My advice would be sticking with what you have or at most, a high quality built cable with no intervention.
I personally would also consider spending any money on the SE to Signature spec which will include a service, check and faceplate upgrade. This doesn’t cost a lot of money by comparison to a so called cable upgrade that can and do cost more.
I noticed everything your selling off. What are you going to use because there is some nice kit there.Reluctant sale of my Sugden A21a Signature in the classifieds. Plug
Hi RC - lol yes well I have some more stuff yet to come too.I noticed everything your selling off. What are you going to use because there is some nice kit there.
Can’t speak directly of the SE but I’ve owned both the a21a S2 and the signature and there was definitely a lift in bass control and dynamics. Not massive but it was there.Does anyone actually know the differences between the original A21SE and the 10 years later SIGNATURE model that substituted it.
At the time, Sugden did mention the use of some lower impedance components and silver cabling in the newer guise but nothing definite and as I was told at the time" the A21Se has been on the market for 10 years and a refresh-up was in order “.I did ask if mine could be updated to the new spec. but no joy as they wished to protect the new Signature owners.and the reply was negative but the changes were obviously not enouigh to warrant a new name, merely a suffix.
Has anyone actually compared the 2 in an audition or technically speaking ?
Excellent choice Sir! I bet it IS good with the AN’s. Does it make you think that you don’t need to spend more on an amp?Signature A21a; a lovely synergy with Audio Note.
It’s on loan Jon. The Suggie has many charms, though very different from my more pricey norma IPA70B. It’s going to be an interesting month!Excellent choice Sir! I bet it IS good with the AN’s. Does it make you think that you don’t need to spend more on an amp?

Absolutely oodles of bass with The A21a Sig. I could certainly live with The Sugden, easy peasy!I found the bass to be a little light with my AN-Es and A21a (in comparison with my valve amp) but otherwise a great combo. I would certainly be impressed if a class AB amp could sound as sweet as an A21!
