It looks great and being Yamaha it should be well put together and punch above its weight. Thanks for posting it up.

The PF-800 and PF-1000 were what Yamaha offered the UK and Europe in the early 1980s whilst Japan and the USA were being offered the likes of the PX1/2/3 linear trackers and, of course, the mighty GT-2000. As it's a belt drive three point suspended subchassis design, I'm guessing they thought it would appeal to the LP12-obsessed UK!

Sadly, it doesn;t seem that it did appeal, but it's been an itch I've been wanting to scratch for a while. When a mint, boxed, original PF-800 turned up on eBay in Germany recently, and then the seller sent me a 'watcher's offer' on it, I decided to grab it. I have to say, it's a very good deck indeed - I've been very impressed. Admittedly, it's not quite up to the standard of the GT-2000 it's sitting beside, but very definitely no slouch.

Reminds me, I must service and repair my PX-2. That would be an interesting three-way shoot-out!

Also check the worldwide sold prices before looking at that price. Seems very overpriced.

If you’re referring to the GT-2000 above then that’s a damn good price, a ridiculous bargain and I’m utterly astounded it’s still available!

However, if you’re referring to the PF-800 that the OP linked to, then I would agree. I paid just over £700 including import duty.

Nope the OP's interest the 800. I'd love the 2000 :)

I can't think of other electrical/mechanical items that increase in value over the years. You don't see overpriced 1970s Hotpoint washing machines on eBay or Pifco hairdryers.
