I'm not interested in the absolute monetary value of your system, just what %age of total spend you have assigned to each major component. I imagine it will be preferred listening source dependant, but it will be interesting to see if there is a correlation across all respondents.

So, to kick off, I listen primarily to vinyl and my breakdown is -

TT (Inc cart) - 36%
Speakers - 25%
Amp - 15%
Streamer - 6%
CDP - 2%
Cassette Deck - 6%
Ancillaries (Cables / PSU's / Stands etc) - 10%

Be interesting to see if that is typical.

I’ve just realised I’m almost at the thirds level between source/amps/speakers without planning it etc. The full purchase price cost is quite alarming (well for me at least) and if I took account of the time cost of me building the speakers they would then be at the 45% level I guess

It’s definitely a calculation that can get skewed depending on when you bought and whether it was new or used.

Based on money leaving my wallet, my vinyl only set up would be 30/40/25 with balance on cables etc. Based on what it might cost new, it is more likely 50% plus on speakers assuming Audio Note had developed their own equivalent version.

Good question though.

I agree entirely. My speakers, for instance, were more expensive new than the rest of my system put together, but none have come up for sale for a couple of years, so I've made an (un) educated guess.

OK, mine's an oddball split, but based on current list price, the percentages are:

79% - Speakers
10.5% - Amp/ DAC / Streamer (all-in-one)
9.3% - CD Player / CD Ripper / Hard drive store / Streamer (all-in-one)
1.2% - Cables

Based on what I actually paid, the percentages are about:

75% - Speakers
14% - Amp, etc
9% - CDP, etc
2% - Cables

As you may have noticed, my music enjoyment is highly influenced by the quality of the component that my ears actually hear!

Peter
