Hi all,

A quick question. Generally, more often than not,

1) Would a preamp that only has RCA inputs give fully balanced outputs if they have XLR outs?

2) Also, if an amp has XLR in and XLR out, would they output fully balanced out of you used an RCA in?

3) OR is it all circuit dependent?

Many thanks in advance.

Lee

So if a preamp has RCA in and XLR out, the XLR's may not be fully balanced and there for convenience?

I was just wondering on my pre that I have now. Rotel RC-995.

No. You could have an combination of ins and outs. You can easily take an rca input and make it a balanced output and vice-versa. 'Tis all in the electronics in the box.

If it's got xlr o/p's they will be balanced.

Have a look on wikipedia or summat for balanced audio. It'll give you a good explanation of balanced signals.
