Hotel Update

Sadly, but as expected, I received a call from the hotel this lunchtime to formally confirm that after next Sunday the hotel will close to the public and be let 100% to the Home Office to house migrants for at least a year.

Sophie the events organiser, who some of you have met, has been spending today mainly calling many brides to tell them (some at VERY short notice) that their wedding is not happening. Not a happy day for her.

Of behalf of the forum I wished her and the rest of the staff well & good luck in the future.

Of course as many know we have already swung back into action and visits have started. Long list had 30 hotels on it, about 50% discounted, initial visits started last week, more this week and next.

I can only echo the good wishes to all at the hotel for there future we are all sad this not going to be our venue going forward but that is what can happen .

To the whole team good luck and thank you for being so kind as to get back on the road to try and find a replacement . It must be frustrating and demotivating to have found such a great option only to then be faced with the whole work to have to start again . It goes without saying if we can be of any help even in a small way let us know .

Such a shame as the hotel had that ‘scalford’ feel …not perfect but that’s what made it ‘loveable’

well it was made formal on Tuesday and they've been calling bookings to cancel, a lot of upset brides!
do wonder about the councils case as not sure they required planning permission in 1850

anyway our feeling is too big a risk to plan for 2023

Well said Lawrence! Our issues we can fix with some effort. When I talked to Sophie last Tuesday she said mine was the first call where she’d not ended up crying poor lady.

key word here is 'interim'
problem is the demand for staff in hospitality is sky high, by the time they hear it and IF it goes the council's way they will have lost key staff and maybe unable to reopen
