Leaving for blighty in a few hours

Leaving aside the speed kills debate, and reccomendations of doing 55 mph...................how fast can I go on the motorway without Mr Yellow blinkity blink taking a piccie of my motor. I'm assuming it's around the 80 mark, or am I wrong?

ACPO guideline is 79 mph: patrol officers shouldn't bother you below 80 unless conditions are exceptional.

Cameras in raodworks or restricted sections (eg M25) are a different matter and may trigger very close to the posted limit.

Watch out for the average speed cameras in some roadworks that measure the time taken to get from the first camera to the next - to fool these, make sure you go through each set in a different lane.

Or even better, pull over for a couple of minutes after you've passed the first camera, then hoon through the restat 120mph..

Depending on which motorway and which section of... I reckon you could get away with at least 90 mph...

I cruise at 85 and dont get bothered by cops on wheels if the conditions are ok.

I guess it depends on how well you know the road your on and where the camera`s are, there is a stretch of m4 at cardiff marked 50 with camera`s, but you see people going thru at over a ton constantly.

Anyone know if the numberplate spray works or not ?

Most speedometers read a few miles an hour over at 70. That means your speedo could be reading 77 and you are actually only doing 70. You can probably get away with 85 on your actual speedometer.

Only some of the average speed cameras can be fooled by changing lanes.

I can't remember which can be, but I have a feeling that the ones on the yellow gantries cannot.

Also, lots of sets have 2 sections for the averging, with 3 cameras- don't get caught out.

I wouldn't rely on that, that sounds like a very easy way to get caught.

Ah but if you go over 170, the camera can't react quick enough
