Hi

I have a set of Mission 780se (one of the last to be made) lying around

I am now thinking of what system to pair them with for the bedroom so I was hoping I could some opinions on what brand they go well with. For an all in one should I use them with the Arcam Solo or linn classik (or neither).

If I go separates then what would be a good foil?

Cheers in advance guys!

I would partner them with the Linn Classik, unlike most other Arcam kit the Solo is actually a little bright sounding and may not partner well with the alreadt explicit 780SE.

If going for separates then I would probably do a u-turn and suggest the Arcam A65+ and the CD73 and both are smooth and rich sounding.

Thanks for that, so what you are saying is that the mission are bright sounding speakers like my Monitor Audio GR20's and could do with toning down a bit.

A bit silly of me but I always thought MF was bright and could never understand why they work well with Monitor Audio

If the Missions are bright sounding I'd have a look at the Audio Analogue Primo range - shoebox sized separates plus a cd/amp/tuner combo. The separates cost about £400 each & the combo £500. They are lovely looking, rich sounding kit imo & on the warm side of neutral. Have a peak on the UKD website.

I currently use a pair of 780SEs with my Arcam A80 & P80 set up and find they suit each other very well.

I can't say I find the Missionsbright, but like all small standmounts, they don't have oodles of bass. Mind you, some may say it's because the Arcam sound is warm and fuzzy.

Not had a pair of Missions for a while now but they matched very well with amplification from Arcam, I have also heard the Arcam Solo and was quite impressed it sounded great with a pair of Quad 12l speakers.

Thanks gents!

A little confused though as it sounds like the 780se will suit the Linn or Arcam (but mainly arcam).

I would have thought the missions were quite different to the Quad's so I am very confused

Are we saying the Missions are bright speakers with little bass (I agree with that as I lover the treble from them) and need to be offset with something like Arcam (does that mean the Linn sound is a more neutral than bright).

Why does the Monitor audio GR20 and MF combo sound so balanced as I would have thought both are quite bright?

I would look for an old cyrus 2 or 3,wouldn't be my cup of tea,but think they'll go together.

I once auditioned the Mission 780se on the end of a Cyrus 7, in my own room, and it sounded great!

So, I guess a s/h Cyrus III (or any other Cyrus) would also be a nice, affordable option.
