Interesting as Laggavullin have just released a deep charred cask version too….I spy a trend

deep char will create more vanillin from the burning of the wood sugar (lignin) in the cask wood. This will give deeper vanilla/caramel notes which is what you get in Bourbon.

I had a sample from a 1 yr old Sherry firkin cask at glenwyvis …I’ve a share in it - fantastic at 1 yr old - the next few years will be very interesting

Deanston 18 is 57 quid S&S at Bezos's place at the moment. Might pick one up at that price. Had a bottle previously, but although good, I didn't think it was massively better than the 12 to justify the price difference.

First pour this evening. Lovely stuff, even on the initial neck pour. Certainly doesn't seem 57 %. I am guessing Springbank, rather than Glen Scotia.

And, from Tony J's back yard, I have just ordered, from Bezos' place. Tobermory 12, on S&S at 33 UKP.

My campbletown is due next week so im looking forward to a weeee dram ,...been of the malt for a few months now ....except when keith drowned me in a few glasses of some of the best malts ive had at the stoke show .

have a look out in your local Lidl ….they released a limited edition Ben Bracken 19 yr old Islay - only 6 bottles per store £40

it’s more than likely a Laggavullin and very smooth at 19yrs old …..not as smoky as the distillery 16 yr old but fantastic value at £40 and 43% alc
