Some good stuff out at the moment. 

This LP by Mark Kavuma is my favourite. Real old-school feel to this one. Nothing like the "Nu-jazz" that's carrying the swing right now.

Speaking of "Nu-Jazz" this 2LP set from the man behind Ruby Rushton is excellent. Recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the talented Yussef Dayes on drums. Brilliant sound quality and very funky.

If you like a bit of Brazilian flavour to your jazz this LP by the Hector Costita Sexteto won't disappoint. On the Vinilissimo label which specialises in things Brazilian and I've found to be very good in terms of pressing and mastering. Contains an excellent cover of Horace Silver's "Tokio".

Lastly some African influenced jazz recorded in Paris in the early 70s. I've been after this for a while so happy to see a good quality repress arrive.

More African influenced jazz. Brahem is a Tunisian oud player.

Haven't managed to catch Ashley Henry yet but seen Daniel Casimir as part of Nubya Garcia's band. Off to see Moses Boyd and Binker Golding on Wednesday which should be pretty full-on. I agree with you totally - UK Jazz is in very rude health at the moment.

Marc Mac of 4 Hero releases a mini LP joining the dots between broken beat, house and jazz funk under his Fourth Kind guise.

1992 deep jazz from South African pianist Bheki Mseleku with support from our own Courtney Pine and Steve Williamson.

 

Another edition to the wealth of outstanding UK jazz from female saxophonist Camilla George.

and lastly on the ever reliable Soul Jazz label is this mixture of jazz and electronica from 1992. Highly influential amongst the current crop of young UK jazzers.

I can confirm pressing and mastering quality is excellent on my copy. Time to impress your friends with something other than Love Over Gold or Aja.

First up is this very limited pressing of one of the finest LPs ever released on the Strata East label. If you have even a passing interest in jazz then buy this and impress your less hip friends. 

Music On Vinyl release a trio of Herbie Hancock fusion albums this week. This is my personal favourite and was the first release of Herbie's on leaving Blue Note. Contains the oft sampled "Wiggle Waggle" and a great example of the "soul jazz" sound.

Very good live recording - Nation Time by Joe McPhee.  Hadn't heard of him prior to this release. Very funky.

Out of the 22A records stable - home of Ruby Rushton - is this very good LP from Nick Walters and his 13-piece The Paradox Ensemble

The Don Rendell/Ian Carr recordings recently released on Jazzman are well worth having.

Released tomorrow is Idris Ackamoor & The Pyramids' 2LP "An Angel Fell". Sun Ra-esque spiritual jazz shot through with a heavy dose of West African rhythms. An excellent follow-up to the just as excellent "We Be All Africans" LP from 2016. Again on Strut Records who's pressing and mastering quality tends to be very good indeed. Crossed-fingers for a live date in London as they were excellent at Cafe Oto back in November 2016
