Following up on some discussions I had with Steve57 on the Sat eve (prior to the fire extinguisher inciden), the idea was to remove the 4th stage amp ….running the tweeters from my setup and feed the Scanspeak tweeters from the MingDa 845’s via a cap as a 1st order passive crossover. The idea being they the SET monoblocks should provide a more detailed top end than the Behringer A500.
I dug back into my crossover parts bin and found a pair of Jantzen Silver Z Cap 15uF caps that I could use in a test. Wired them up to the tweeters this afternoon and adjusted the DSP unit to run with them connected up to the Mings. A few tweeks on a filter to add in a bit of lift above 3.3KHz and it was on with a CD.
I’ve only done this by ear listening so far ….will have a look at it with REW next , but so far there doesn’t seem to be a decrease in performance……if anything less sibilance at high volume levels
.
I’ll run with it this way for a while and report back.
