I always used isopropyl alcohol back in the 1970s and ‘80s when LP was my main source.  Gradually, since CD arrived, my frequency of playing records has declined, and it is only in the last, say, decade I’ve heard any doubts about that method.

Curiously, most of the fancy goos and gels all cost four or five times more, and there plenty of reports of direct or indirect damage caused that way.  As Audio Technica still supply brush and liquid I don’t see any need to change, though maybe somebody one day might use a super powerful microscope to try a comparison.  Otherwise it’s simply guesswork!

I did buy some of that jewellers putty stuff but have never had a balls to use it!

PS. Also available from my nearest Hifi store…https://ceritech-audio.co.uk/online-shop/turntable-accessories/accessories-turntable-accessories/audio-technica-at607a-stylus-cleaning-fluid/

I use Lyra SPT cleaning fluid and green paper on my DV TKR as recommended by Peter at Cymbiosis.

Cheers Ady

That reminds me, I still have my 'Green stuff' as supplied with HFNRR in the 80s.

I've been using one or other of the sticky gel things for as long as I've had decent cartridges. I'd be nervous about the potential damage from any fluid, but far more nervous about a clumsy slip with the brush resulting in a cantilever mishap.

OTOH, I'm really fussy about cleaning LPs and not playing anything that looks grubby.

I used a diamond stylus cleaner fluid and a brush prior to the Dustbuster appearing a few years ago and never had any issues at all so what did you all use before the Dustbuster???

I use a soft brush between sides, the AT sticky polymer cleaner between albums, and only use the fluid once every couple of weeks or perhaps longer. That seems to work for me.

Had one of those 'zerodust' gel pots for as long back as I can remember mate. Couldn't tell you before then. Probably just a brush.

Can't say I have ever needed to clean my stylus

Once the LP has been U/ Sonic cleaned then wet cleaned and vacum dry on my PRC4 the gunge is gone , May pick up the odd fluf or hair but that's easy to remove
