Chaps, I'm a little bit concerned that there are too many dacs being bought to the party. One is all that's needed, afterall it is supposed to be about the transports. If we try and use everything it will get very confusing and you will not get a conclusive answer to the question.

The other thing we need to sort out is cables, ie we need 4 co-ax that are the same.Perhaps we could getloan from one of the cable guys for the purpose of the test? And music needs to be thought about too, we could do with 4 identical discs. I could make up 4 the same. What's everyone's thoughts?
Good point, I'll see if I can get a loan from my local dealer if possible.

Just confirmed: should be able to get 4 Atlas cables on loan for the weekend

James, do you mind if I bring my amp along, as I'm toying with a change of cdp, and I'd love to hear how the Esoteric and JVC sound throughtthe Marantz with the Arcs.

That would be great Testy, no problem.

We can use your amp, papa's speakers, as long as they work well enough together we can use them while we fanny about with CDT's and DACs for a couple of hours.

Ok lads,

Final name and kit list needed.

I don't think we need more than one DAC. If Brako can still make it, then his has lots of inputs and will allow us to carry out out test.

I don't think we need to get too anal about procedure. I don't intend publishing any papers on the results. But we can follow some basic principles. Such as hiding the input selector and making sure we use the same music for each spinner.

If there is a CD we all have a copy of then we may be able to set them both spinning at the same time. Or I could run two copies of the same disk on the day, once we have chosen a test track.

If any one fancies a Curry afterwards, I would be up for it. There is a Curry house a few minutes walk away, which is really quite good.

I will PM directions and phone numbers once we have a list confirmed.

James,

I'll be bringing my Meridian 507 and WB Arcs. I'll leave the DAC at home since it seems it won't be required. I may be up for a Curry depending on the finish time of the session (i've got to drop Russ back to Cambridge before driving back to MK).

They should hopefully gel nicely with the Copland/Densen combo. Will be very interesting.

From what I have read, I would imagine they will partner really well with my kit. But they are more than £1k and I won't spend more than that on a single item of HiFi.

never.

ever..

oh God, this is going to be expensive isn't it.

Should still be good to make it, was supposed to be visiting Aunt + Uncle apparently, but can get out of that (fingers crossed).

Tony - are you still coming with the Esoteric? Can't wait to get a listen

Im still looking good for it...

Can bring The Denon DVD2900 to use as a transport etc and if you want I could also bring the Prima Luna?

What time are you planning to kick off/finish?

Cheers

Hi chaps, been on Holiday for a week, got back yesterday. I won't be able to make it I'm afraid as I have got a job on this weekend which I can't turn down. Sorry it's short notice but it's too much wonga to turn down. Hope you have a good day.

Looking good for this. Now, I realise this is about as likely as an England team winning something, but is there anything among my kit anyone wants to hear - the X-Ray is off to MF this week for a sofware update, but I have a Cambridge 640C (mk1) that might provide a budget benchmark for the "real" hifi? Have the boxes for the PMCs too...
