It’s only possible to start this thread having never met in the flesh any of the other lifeforms that contribute to the forum. Today, by chance, is April Fools Day, and today is also the day that I realised that, having now had my speakers for 12 years, it is in fact physically possible to remove their grilles. I don’t wish to go deeply into the matter of how and why this is so, but it is. Result: clearer vocals, better lower bass. I’m not sure whether to be pissed off by not have been listening to my speakers properly for the last decade, or to rejoice at having a free upgrade. Either way, it’s a case of:oops:

I bought a Roksan Kandy amp having never listened to it.

Having had my ears shredded by its unlistenable high frequency bias i replaced it with a second hand Musical Fidelity X-A2.

Lesson learned - ALWAYS listen to anything you plan on spending more than £50 on!

Without a doubt, QED Silver Anniversary cable. Bought it blind on the strength of all those gushing magazine reviews. For something that costs less than £50, it managed to screw up my entire £2400 system.

You forgot the decimal point Solid: £24.00 system.

Don't worry about it Sheva, with those Missions I'd put the grilles back on.

Are you trying to be some sort of show-off James ? You'll be telling us next that you were sitting down listening to it at the time ?

in a word... how?

 It hurts!

Not sure if I posted this a while ago. In my younger inexperienced days I was in a downstairs demo room at a small hi-fi shop listening to some headphones. I plugged a pair of Beyers into an amp and cranked up Deep Purple's Speed King I was into at the time without realising I hadn't switched the speakers off. After a few seconds this bloke came charging down the stairs yelling 'I say young man, could you turn it down a tad as I have customers upstairs who can't hear me?' or words to that effect.

Being over excited having purchased a new power amp so I could bi-amp, and being really disapointed for a few days at how little detail it had, before finding out that I was running without tweeters

Fixing in the argo, got it all set up,flicked the stylus tip with a brush, sound came out of both speakers, lowered the stylus in anticipation, naff all sound, except a very small scraping type of sound.

Checked it all again, everything seemed ok,lowered the stylus once againon the record, same result.

Started to get a little concerened, tried it all again, same result, rang the dealer,he could'nt understand it.Then Ichecked the stylus connection wires,a couple were proud and not allowing the stylus to drop in the groove.:nerd:
