I was messing with Jadis JA-200 monos..switched them off and then made the mistake of not allowing for the 6 BIG capacitors to discharge fully, went to unplug the large power connectors and they discharged right up my arm...havent stood so proud in years.

Electrocutions mainly...thats my thing.

When moving kit around I frequently forget to plug both speakers in. Maybe I don't actually forget, it is laziness and I am secretly hoping the other one will work once I've sat down.

Spending almost £300 on an MF MVT pre-amp with its phono stage torn out and an the innards of something cheap and nasty soldered in, plumber style.

eBay of course, my first "win" too

The most embarrassing hi-fi mistake must surely be:

Jeanine: You don't, you don't do heavy metal in dobly, you know, I Mean...it's

Nigel: In what??? In what???

Jeanine: In dobly...

Nigel: In doubly!?! What's that?

David: She means Dolby, alright? She means Dolby, you know? You know perfectly well what she means.

It said "Bush" on the front and I still bought it without a trace of irony.

Ouch.

Surely, you'd have to be a dolphin to hear any sound from that combination?!

It's 1985.

Every hifi journo is spoofing his pants over the Mission Cyrus 2 integrated so muggins here goes off to Laskys (remember them??) in Tott Ct Rd and buys one. No audition... 'surely it must be awesome'.

Got it home and plugged it in.

It was shit.

Let it run-in for a couple of weeks.

Still shit.

Plugged by little Rotel RA820BX back in. Music and sanity restored.

Some mug paid me the new price of the Cyrus to get his hands on it - apparently his dealer was struggling to get hold of one for him due to demand.

Ever since then I've not believed a word spoken by any hifi magazine reviews.
