It seems a lot of members fell for the hype over the QED SA speaker cable. I escaped it luckily.

In no particular order:

Linn Karik/Numerik- meant any listening to CD was torture extreme.

Being conned by the LP12 over a Thorens 124 by ( a different) dealer

Being conned by the Ekos over the Ittok

QED cable

Being told that the Linn Sara would make my ESL 57's sound like s--t ( that I didn't fall for)

Reading "What Hi Fi" back in the 80's.

jeez, give me some credit.

I was behind James, I'd bang 'im.
Wot? Do you draw the line at inanimate objects, or is it just that the Levinson doesn't do it for you? Would another CDP be OK?

I think we should be told!

I still use QED SA and I've never heard any other speaker cable in my system. What am I missing? Bear in mind that I can't hear any difference in interconnects.

What reasonably priced cable is the defacto alternative? I need it to be as thin as the SA (due to the placing of it) and I need it in large quantities. Not being glow-in-the-dark or bright green would be a help too.

What I might do is buy a small amount of whatever gets recommended and check it out. My setup requires metres and metres of the stuff though, because I have cables running from AV amp to source selector, plus from stereo amp to source selector, then from source selector to speakers. We're talking a good 25-30m of cable for my fronts (L/C/R)

The idea that QED SA is somehow terrible is a hi-fi urban myth.

How on earth can it be terrible? Why is it terrible? What are the mechanisms that make it terrible?

See? Not one answer to those questions.

Shropshire Borders,
I destroyed two Clearaudio Aurum Beta S cartridges due to being pissed up and shouting - first time while jumping about to Monochrome Set eearly singles, and second while getting over-excited by DAF's "Der Mussolini"..

Haven't a clue, so can't explain but in my own experience you can get a lot cheaper cables that sound a lot better than the QED. True the cables is a conductor and should not add anything to sound signal i suppose they take away too much from the sound.

Somethings there are exceptions, like buying That's Suono Metal tapes for around £1.50 a fair few years ago. Wish I had bought a lot more at the time:wall:
